March Highlights

1. KB 100 EP

Reach Records signee KB released an EP to follow up his debut album Weight and Glory from a few years back. The production on these tracks outshines much of the album and KB proves again that he is still the best spitter in the 116 Clique.

Standout Track: Doubts

2. Taking Back Sunday Happiness Is

Post-punk hardcore bands filled my Walkman CD player during most of middle school and high school days. Taking Back Sunday was among the ranks and they have returned to deliver a new LP to follow up their 2009 self-titled release.

Standout Track: “Flicker, Fade

3. My Chemical Romance May Death Never Stop You

Emo Rockers My Chemical Romance were Top 10 residents back in 2005 with “Helena” and it’s gloriously gothic music video. After calling it quits last year, the group is releasing their greatest hits collection with a new song to book end their saga as the band that encapsulates the Emo rock movement.

Standout Track: “Fake Your Death

4. The War on Drugs Lost in the Dream

the war on drugs

The War on Drugs released their third LP this month, and their second since Kurt Vile began his very popular solo career. This album is front-to-back beautiful and I love listening to this album at work while I run through emails and menial desk work.

Standout Track: “Red Eyes

5. Foster the People Supermodel

Foster the People follow their enormous success with “Pumped Up Kicks” with a sophomore album that does little to make another poppy radio hit. Instead, Supermodel builds its sound on classic garage band instrumentation and the overt 80’s synth candy tunes from Torches mellow out  in this LP into rock guitar chord progressions.

Standout Track: “Ask Yourself

 6. dnk. dnk. EP

Nashville pop/rap duo dnk. have just released their debut EP online. The group delivers three upbeat dance tunes that pull a lot of energy a la Karmin or Ke$ha. This will be a fun group to watch develop into a big act. Download the EP here.

Standout Track: “Heartache”

2. Nickel Creek “21st of May
